Wild Evening Primrose Seed Packet

Oenothera biennis

Wild Evening Primrose is a graceful native wildflower known for its tall stems and luminous yellow blooms that open at dusk. Common across fields, roadsides, and open landscapes in Atlantic Canada, this hardy biennial brings a soft glow to summer gardens while supporting a wide range of pollinators.

Blooming throughout mid to late summer, its delicate flowers open in the evening and remain fresh through the morning, attracting night pollinators such as moths as well as daytime bees and butterflies.

Adaptable and easy to grow, Wild Evening Primrose thrives in sunny locations with well-drained soil and tolerates dry, sandy, or disturbed ground. Its tall flowering stalks add height and movement to meadow plantings and naturalized landscapes.

Evening Primrose Fact: The flowers of evening primrose can open in just a few minutes at dusk, releasing a light fragrance that helps attract night-flying pollinators.

Our native seeds are locally foraged, gathered thoughtfully and in small quantities. We follow responsible seed-collection practices used in restoration and conservation work—collecting only from healthy, abundant populations, taking only a small portion of available seed, and leaving plenty behind for wildlife and natural regeneration.
